Looking back, what would you tell your younger self about preparing for retirement?

"Drawing inspiration from my parents' disciplined lifestyle and prudent financial planning, I began planning for retirement early in my career.

If I could impart wisdom to my younger self, I would emphasise the importance of financial management and retirement savings while advocating for embracing life's pleasures, staying in the moment, nurturing self-belief, perpetually learning, and consistently striving toward personal aspirations.

Your age should never hinder the pursuit of dreams.”

What are you passionate about, and how do you spend your time now?

"My passions include reading, writing, coaching, and mentoring younger generations to propel their career trajectories. I also facilitate workshops and mentoring sessions tailored for aspiring women leaders.

In 2016, I was the Program Director for the First Linkage Inc. program "Women In Leadership," conducted in India.

I derive immense joy from exploring new destinations and immersing myself in diverse experiences."

Her experience with WisdomCircle

"I have had a very positive experience with WisdomCircle. Their efforts to connect experienced professionals with businesses seeking talent are commendable. I have consistently had excellent interactions with the WisdomCircle team. They are professional and engaged and foster an enriching, collaborative environment."

WisdomCircle honours those challenging cultural expectations of elders slowing down and retreating into retirement by shining light on their journey through an inspiring series called “Wisdom Stories”.

We interviewed Ms Shukla Bose, one of the honourees of 58 Over 58, a collaborative endeavour spearheaded by WisdomCircle and INK. The mission is to spotlight the narratives of 58 remarkable individuals annually who are meaningfully engaged in their post-retirement phase.

Shukla was in the corporate world for 26 years in the hospitality industry before she quit to start an NGO from her kitchen table about 20 years ago with her lifetime savings. The NGO Parikrma Humanity Foundation runs schools for street, slum and orphaned children in Bangalore. She says, "Today, my flex is my ability to balance a successful career with meaningful relationships and personal well-being. Two decades ago, my flex would have been solely focused on climbing the corporate ladder and accumulating material possessions. Back then, I measured success by job titles and salary figures, but now, it's about fulfilment and balance."
