Looking back, what would you tell your younger self about preparing for retirement?

"I enjoyed every moment of my life and prepared well for my retirement. However, looking back, I would do my financial planning at least twenty years before retirement, whereas I did a decade before I hung my boots. I took good care to ensure a healthy body, a happy mind and a safe bank balance to take care of spouse and self for the rest of my life."

What are you passionate about, and how do you spend your time now?

"I coach, mentor, consult, teach, write and travel, post my retirement. I am an active blogger every week for the last many years and have published four books so far and plan to do many more. I actively look at opportunities to give back to society as an expression of gratitude to my family, friends and society at large for whatever I am today."

On his experience with WisdomCircle

"WisdomCircle has opened new vistas for me to contribute back to society. They have valued my experience and matched my interests with organisational needs very well. I am thankful to them for supporting me in all my social causes. I am currently working with Wirtgen, a John Deer company as a Strategic HR adviser – thanks to WisdomCircle."

How much net worth do you need to retire?

In her latest blog for WisdomCircle, Shoba Narayan dives into a thought-provoking question: How much net worth is truly needed to retire comfortably? Inspired by the extravagant Ambani wedding, she contrasts the pursuit of opulence with the liberating simplicity of a couple who chose freedom over excess.

Could the answer to retirement planning not lie in a specific figure, but in the choices that lead to a more fulfilling life?

WisdomCircle honours those challenging cultural expectations of elders slowing down and retreating into retirement by shining light on their journey through an inspiring series called “Wisdom Stories”.

Shravani Dang in her interview with Saonli Bedi of WisdomCircle says, “I like to keep myself occupied all the time. I am currently on the board of a listed company, and I am Trustee to Charities Aid Foundation. I am following my artistic pursuits, a passion I discovered during COVID. I also started a “Home Chef” business and am writing a book on the History of Food, which was triggered by an unusual chain of events. My mother expressed a wish of visiting her erstwhile home (pre-partition) in Bangladesh, and I took her there. It was to be our last trip together. This trip unlocked many memories, and she shared anecdotes pertaining to her early life, including many forgotten stories on food and culture. These conversations gave me the idea to write a book on the history of food.

I resonate with WisdomCircle’s vision deeply. For quite some time, there has been a trend of undermining older people at the workplace in corporate India. They are being replaced by less experienced people, who may not have the wisdom and maturity for certain roles. There must be a way to bring the silver set back to work, as their experience is invaluable. WisdomCircle couldn’t have come a day earlier.

New again at 60

In an insightful article by Outlook Money, the spotlight is on the vibrant new phase of life for those over 60. The piece highlights the growing trend of reinvention in retirement along with the opportunities available and challenges they face.

In the article, Neeraj Sagar, Founder of WisdomCircle, says, "I’ve observed that the motivations for rejoining the workforce are multifaceted. The primary reason is a profound desire to remain actively engaged and seek mental stimulation through purposeful pursuits in their second innings. Moreover, what truly resonates with senior professionals is the sense of fulfilment derived from sharing their invaluable knowledge and experience with the next generation."

This shift in mindset is reshaping the how we think about retirement, offering a fresh perspective on what it means to thrive beyond traditional retirement.
