Retirees on work-life balance and its evolution in retirement

We asked our community, “How important was work-life balance throughout your career and did you manage to achieve it? Has your perspective on the topic evolved in retirement?” and received several thoughtful lessons and perspectives.

Taking Stock of 2023 and Onward to 2024

When reflecting on the year gone by and thinking on the future, Shobha Narayan, thinks about “What is a good life?” She writes, "My definition of the good life is typically Indian. It involves a contradiction." But how does one reconcile with it?

The Best Years of Your Life Are Earned

Adnan Ahmad writes, “As you cross into the ‘retirement’ community, most of us are filled with anxiety and fear of the unknown. Used to a life of  9 to 5 rigour… the future looks bleak with a calendar filled with empty spaces. The reality for me was no different for the first twelve months or so but then transformed into something completely different.”

How did he transform his post-retirement life?

Are you “insanely” hard working?

Rishi Khanna, writes "In a world where the phrase ‘insanely hard-working’ often garners praise, it’s time to flip the script and consider the merits of being ‘sanely hard-working.’ This isn’t just a play on words; it’s a fundamental shift in how we approach work, success, and life balance."
What does being "sanely hard-working" entail?

WisdomCircle honours those challenging cultural expectations of elders slowing down and retreating into retirement by shining light on their journey through an inspiring series called “Wisdom Stories”.

Dr Aruna Sharma in her interview with Saonli Sen Choudhury says, “If one is passionate about a cause, avenues automatically open up. Today, I am on the Board of 5 companies, and an Advisor to a few organizations. I spend time with my 91-year-old mother and take pleasure in nurturing my garden.”
